Buckle up! So many things to watch this election.
On Election Day, I’m anchoring several hours of coverage for my TV gig with Gray Media Iowa. We will follow turnout, any potential issues, key races in our state, and the presidential matchup. You will see some familiar faces in our coverage among the many contributors throughout the afternoon and evening.
Our coverage goes from 2-230pm and then from 7-9:45pm.
You can watch through this link.
Guests include: Matt Paul, Nicole Schlinger, Brianne Pfannestiel, Laura Belin, Dr. Tim Hagle, Dr. Kelly Winfrey, Jerry Crawford, Mike Mahaffey, and Kelley Koch. Plus, some others depending on results.
Here’s what I will be watching tonight:
—Has polling diva Ann Selzer done it again with her Des Moines Register Iowa Poll? The final poll showed Kamala Harris beating Donald Trump in Iowa by three points. Can Harris really turn Iowa blue again fueled by women?
—How strong will women’s turnout be in Iowa? Changes to abortion laws and education, the Harris’ candidacy’s historic potential, strong feelings about Trump, plus numerous women on the ballot could fuel interest for both parties.
—Will a noticeable chunk of Republican voters choose to be done with Trump and either support Harris, skip the race altogether, or write in a Republican alternative?
—Will Trump’s strength with voters without college degrees (and thanks, Don, for catching the typo in the original post), 20-something men, and Evangelicals fortify his position in the state? Is his political comeback real?
—Can Republicans hold onto their four U.S. house seats? Or can Democrats take the 1st District and possibly the 3rd?
—Will senate Democrats pick up enough seats to get rid of Statehouse Republicans’ supermajority lead? Can house Democrats win enough seats to get into the high 30s? Is it possible for Republicans to expand their dominance in the legislature?
Turnout and interest seem to be high in this general election. Let’s hope that our friends and neighbors across the country show the necessary patience with results and civility with others no matter the outcome.
Our country’s future is at stake.
