Damn, I can’t believe that it has been 10 years since my dad, Ron Price, passed away. After Dad died, Mom got my two brothers, sister and me a remembrance candle.
I never light it. I know the purpose of a candle…to burn it.
But I just don’t want to mess it up. It means too much. We have it on a shelf in our living room so we can see it every day. I think Dad understands.
More time. There are so many times when something happens with our beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Or something in politics is fascinating, confusing or infuriating. And there are always moments with our kids that amaze me.
Even after 10 years, I think about calling Dad. He loved the Cardinals, followed politics passionately but treasured grandkids more than anything.
I miss sharing stories about all of those.
There is also something about Dad‘s passing a decade ago that makes me think a lot about time. I likely have more life behind me than I have ahead of me. Yikes.
Time to reflect. I need to make the most of it.
I find that I have less patience for political bullshit. I have a greater hunger for seeking solutions to community challenges. And I have a greater appreciation for memories with family and friends.
Time is about perspective.
Time is limited. Time to treasure it, maximize it and celebrate it.
I wish that I could call Dad one more time.
Time to appreciate. I love to meet fascinating people. Grant Hilbert is one of those people. As a teenager, he played games for others to watch on YouTube, realized that people really liked what he was doing, built a following of 1.3 million subscribers (1.3 million!), started a company that designed a new game and then realized his boyhood dream by buying a farm….and he is only 24!
Unusual time. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds wants to become Donald Trump’s U.S. Secretary of Education. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds doesn’t want to become Donald Trump’s U.S. Secretary of Education.
Confused? There was plenty of confusion to go around. Watch my latest Inside Iowa Politics where we try to follow what happened.
Thanks for watching. Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring.

About governor’s news conferences: Gov. Robert Ray held DAILY news conferences. I used many of his comments on my noon newscasts when I was working in radio. There was an outcry from reporters when Branstad went to weekly news conferences after he was elected.
Dave, Light the candle, look at it and just ponder the goodness of your beloved Dad. That meditation can give you strength and peace to carry you through the blue smoke, disinformation, and crap that you witness. Most mornings I have a wee candle time before I read or listen to "news."
