Raising taxes on people who have avoided paying anything for what seems like forever, would be a good start, and the easy way to kick it off is to take off ceiling for collecting Socoal Security taxes. How much it cost to send 40 representatives to the boarder .Because I am a moderate Democrat it does not do any good to call my congress women and my senators. Do they pay for gym membership? Do they pay for their medical coverage?

There are some people very concerned about the annual deficit and the national debt, but the percentage of people supporting both an increase in taxes and a reduction in spending is a minority, so members of our Congress rarely address the problem. There is no political consequence to them kicking the can down the road.

None of Dave's ideas will be implemented in a state like Iowa with leaders who do not believe in government funding or programs, as seen with support of private schools, moving AEA services to private consultants, contracting for nursing home inspectors, etc. For the last generation, elected officals, media, academia, have neither explained to the public what they get for their tax dollars, nor resisted continuous attacks on all things government. Starving govt is a priority.
