What's your thoughts on the Iowa Caucuses as they now stand? I'm of a mind they need to be replaced by a primary in this state and let other states go ahead of us. I think the program has run its course.
For Iowa Democrats, it's uncertain. They still cling to hope that somehow other plans fall apart and they can reclaim their position as first in the nation. But most states have turned away from caucuses and will rely on primaries. For Iowa Republicans, they have a crowded field for now. For the past three cycles, they have chosen social conservative favorites as the top finisher only to see them fade later. Both parties have taken steps to address criticism of past caucuses but they know that this is an uphill climb.
You're not constrained by legacy journalism standards anymore. "The Price Perspective" doesn't require a cautious approach without revealing your own opinion here on substack. Let loose, speak your mind, unless of course, you're only interviewing for another legacy "news" job in your musings here.
I'm not using this column to get another job, if that's what you are alleging. But I'm also not an opinion writer. And, yes, I realize that is often the format in a space like this. This is a time of transition professionally and I'm still thinking through all the steps. Perhaps, it's possible that one day I'll write these in a different manner. But today is not that day.
I am not an expert on cults, but Trump and his supporters give the appearance of one.

How can you call this independent writing?
Can you explain what you mean?
It wasn't a news article, but an opinion piece.
WOW! You hit the nail right on the head!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Great column, Dave! Your “never minds” are a great roundup of all those things that make the Trump phenomenon so unbelievable!
Thanks, Wini.
